NaNoWriMo (Originally from 17th Oct 2017)

I attended my first NaNoWriMo event yesterday at the Geek Cafe in Birmingham (just down from Moor Street station, then make a left turn).
It was an interesting event, a combination of superhero shenanigans and on-the-spot creativity. First of all there were the usual icebreakers: among others I met a pleasant, enthusiastic young attendee called Charlotte as well as Cassie, who designs a huge range of costumes for events (we discussed how easy it is to create a Roman toga, for example) including one of a phoenix for one of the event planners, Lily. The latter was very proud of her Wonderwoman outfit and kindly festooned us with bags containing all kinds of useful items such as bendy eraser, notepads and even a plastic dinosaur.
Later on there were games to guess what had happened to various unfortunate characters on individual game cards by the use of questioning - always an important skill in life - and other exercises to get to know people better. Future events include going to a hotel and spontaneously writing until the wee small hours, which sounds of particular interest. I'll try to get to some of these though I know there are clashing commitments. And to end an enjoyable day it was even warm enough to sit outside and have dinner on the slope down towards the market, near the Bull Ring.
Thanks to all those who made the day possible.
